清朝光绪年间,为治理各地分散铸币所造成的货币混乱,清政府开始对货币进行整理和改造。除了明确铸币权统一归入中央外,还具体拟定了铸币的样式、单位、重量和颜色。清大清宣统三年银币,是清末币制改革的产物,版别多,设计新颖,制作精良,多见于钱币爱好者。宣统三年,大清银币的版式各不相同,其中长须龙、短须龙、大尾龙较少。但是还没有发行就遇上了武昌起义,只有《曲须龙》发行,其余大部分是样币。
